What follows is a description of theories used in my clinical social work practice and my consultant work for astrologicalpsychology.org. These theories and their application are the bases of operations in astrology and psychology disciplines. There are sections of practical experiments which can guide the beginner to the Huber method to discover how to actualize insights into this method of horoscope interpretation.
- Psychological Social Development:
The first thing is to understand in the lifecycle is the work of Eric Erickson and Bruno and Louise Huber. These theorists identified the developmental stages and critical psychological tasks starting at birth with the establishment of the ‘I’ to the moment of death. An individual goes through psychological conflicts which need to be resolved for healthy growth to occur during his/her whole life long. They include when a child is developing the sense of “I”; entering in the school world as an elementary student; making acquaintances; leaving home; facing existential issues and finding a love partner; going into the job market; finding a partner; the frustration crisis that occurs when one is at midlife age at approximately age 47; finding our personal spiritual meaning of life; issues that are involved in one’s occupational autonomy and authority when one is in the 50s; retirement issues; old age and physical decline up to age 72; and rebirth as a unique identity that continues to proceed until death. The issues of development are modified by what Hubers call the Age Point (AP) as it interacts with sensitive points and angles in the horoscope. The AP takes 72 years to travel through the 12 houses. Below is a figure with an example of the life phases the AP contacts as it takes 6 years to traverse one house.
Practical Experiments:
There are three astrology software programs (and more) that offer Huber method: a free one www.astro.com; Astro mirror for Androids; Regulus Pro Huber Platinum, administrator Juan Saba. The house system used is Koch. You can tell where your Age Point is in your horoscope by using Age Point progression. And you can identify by Age any significant time in your life to observe developmental issues. (see figure below) Then evaluate Age Point aspects in your horoscope to planets and sensitive points and how they are part of aspect patterns that are active at those important times. Pay attention to how the Age Point makes angular aspects to three kinds of shaping in your chart: Linear, Mutable, or Quadrangular aspect patterns. You may want to buy the book Life Clock by the Hubers. Or hire a Huber trained astrological psychology consultant listed on astrologicalpsychology.org website.

2. Psychological self- integration:
Next comes the determination of the process for individual personality development ( Professor Assagioli calls the process Individual Psychosynthesis). The need for integration of one individual Ego planet (the Sun, Moon, or Saturn) is prioritized (based on the optimal position of the Ego planets in the horoscope and additional considerations) which results in knowing the strongest ego planet in the horoscope. Using one frame of reliable reference in orientation of the personality over others builds confidence and self-knowledge. Identification of the strongest ego planet occurs by the individual being aware that one of the drives is more important than others in his/her personality: for physiological and safety (Saturn); or for Love and Belonging (Moon); or for Esteem and self- actualization (Sun). (See chart below) One of these will be prominent in the personality as the reliable and valid source of ego identification. This self discovery results in an ego identity that is fused with a cluster of strengths with emphasis on the body (Saturn), or the emotions (Moon) or on the mind (Sun). This end process is called individualization in which a dominant function is identified in the personality. The integration of the dominant ego function occurs by you choosing the strongest ego planet (Saturn= the body; Moon= the feelings; Sun= the Mind or thinking.)
Practical experiments:
You will determine which is the strongest ego planet: Saturn, Moon or Sun in your chart which you can rely on with confidence to bring your awareness of Self together. You may buy The Planets by the Hubers and use the software to identify factors in weighing which ego planet is strongest. Consultation with a Huber trained astrological psychologist may be wanted. It is worth saying that Hellenistic astrology does not equate Saturn with the mother; Sun with the father and Moon with your inner child reaching out for love and affection but the Huber method does this.
The theoretical sources for this are Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs in A Theory of Human Motivation, 2013 and Huber’s three levels of life experience in which our personalities are anchored. This is called the threefold personality comprised of Saturn, Moon or the Sun. This is explained by Louise and Bruno Huber in The Planets. Ego planets are identified as conscious elements of the psyche.
3. Interaction between genetic endowment and environment:
The third source of my work involves how behavior is determined by interaction between heredity and the environment. The preponderance of planets in the astrological Signs show a strong heredity influence. A large number of planets in the Houses in the horoscope signify the influence of the environment. The sum total of each determines which influence is dominant in the behavior of the individual. How these are particularly individualized and how they interact with individual life problems are determined by analysis of the horoscope. Does the environment contribute to more of the development and resolution of life problems, hinder it or is it heredity that comes to the rescue? This is defined by Bruno and Louise Huber’s concept of Dynamic Calculations. Bruno and Louise Huber’s book Transformation, 2008 includes a description of dynamic calculations and how to find them.
Practical Experiments:
Dynamic calculations require software (I use the Regulus or Megastar software). You may also refer to excellent description by Joyce Hopewell in her book, The Living Birth Chart, 2019 p. 82.
4. Indwelling of Transpersonal Reality:
The last source of theory in my work researches the process of spiritual growth leading to wholeness of the personality known as the Individuation process discovered by Carl Gustav Jung. And in this particular area we’re talking about Transpersonal development by selective reception in the individual of the super-rational. And for that we are supported by Roberto Assagioli’s work in Psychosynthesis in which is shown at the top his egg diagram (6) in which an individual can receive transpersonal spiritual influences.
Assagioli’s egg shell image (above) was modified by the Hubers as an “Amphora” (below) which has the transpersonal planets toward the top of the figure. The transpersonal planets represent drives in the super-realms of consciousness in which there is an indwelling of the forces of spirit ‘downloaded’ in the individual which can lead to illumination and revelations. One can experience higher consciousness through dreams and other kinds of spiritual awakenings through development of psychic telepathic abilities.
In addition to that, Bruno and Louise Huber used initiation rituals when the ego planets are in aspect or transited by the transpersonal planets of Neptune, Uranus and Pluto which create challenges to the ego and an opportunity for transcendence of the ego. This initiation process is not easy. Study of this transformation experience in your own life can bring about wholeness. Completion of the process of individuation can bring a sense of peace and balance in your life experience. The spiritual realms use the tool of the “transcendent function” of the Self that brings about changes in your ego identity by neutralizing conflict (complexes) of polar opposites in your psyche as you play out the drama of your life.
Practical Experiments:
You may need to buy The Planets, by the Hubers and look up factors of initiation with transpersonal planets in transit, by natal aspect, and by Age Point conjunction or opposition to configurations of the following planets: Saturn/ Uranus; Moon/ Neptune; and Sun/Pluto
